Fully utilizing Japanese Shinkansen electrical system technology and experience to serve as a bridge between Japan and India by helping to achieve high-speed rail in expansive country

We are assisting with India’s first ever high-speed rail construction project, which is being promoted based on Japanese Shinkansen technology and experience.
In 1964, the Shinkansen was launched as the world’s first example of operational high-speed rail, and—to achieve higher speeds as well as safe and stable operations—Shinkansen-related technology and operations have been continuously polished in line with Japan’s climate and society.

It is now necessary to similarly introduce a system suitable for India based on Japan’s technology and experience. Our job in this connection is to provide total support on behalf of National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the ordering party, in the field of electrical system (including Overhead Equipment, MV/LV Distribution Power Supply System, Traction Power Supply System, Signalling, Telecommunication, Automatic Train Supervision System, etc.) to introduce core Shinkansen technology.

Solution

Design and bidding stage
Design and bidding work starts with the creation of design documents and bidding documents, but, for this project, we had involved an outside organization to create these documents, and our company held discussions with related parties to confirm the design documents and finalize the bidding conditions.
In line with the contract objectives and details, a total of nine contracts—including negotiated contracts and general competitive bidding—are currently planned.
Construction stage
In terms of overseas projects, construction work is done under a construction management system in line with FIDIC regulations.
In other words, we will cooperate with engineers who handle construction management work assigned to them by the ordering party in order to execute the project.
Confirmation tests, etc. will be conducted in line with the progress of each construction to ensure construction quality.
Ultimately, similarly to Japanese Shinkansen construction work, overall tests that include train running tests will be conducted to provide a safe, high-quality Shinkansen system.
Operational stage
In general, our company is not involved in Shinkansen operations after they have started, but—because we are in charge of core systems in the field of electrical system (including Overhead Equipment, MV/LV Distribution Power Supply System, Traction Power Supply System, Signalling, Telecommunication, Automatic Train Supervision System, etc.)—in response to a request from National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), we are tracking the situation in terms of providing safe and stable train operations.
