Message from President and CEO
Driven by our sense of mission,
we are taking on the challenge of a massive project.
Our role is to assist with the high-speed rail project connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad (approximately 500 kilometers) by utilizing Japan’s advanced Shinkansen technology
as well as our related knowledge on behalf of India-based
National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL)
in the field of electrical system (including Overhead Equipment,
MV/LV Distribution Power Supply System, Traction Power Supply
System, Signalling, Telecommunication, Automatic Train
Supervision System, etc.).
In Japan, it is general practice for railway companies and
other construction-work ordering parties to decide on the specifications and select builders.
However, in India, the knowledge and experience needed for such decisions and selections is just beginning to be built up from now on.
In addition, this project to build an approximately 500-kilometer line is on a scale rarely seen in recent years, even in Japan, where projects have been built up over more than half a century.
We are playing a major role in the project by serving as a bridge
between Japan and India, specifically by sharing our knowledge
of Shinkansen technology and other railway safety requirements
to help to ensure the reliable and smooth achievement of the
project.
It currently takes around seven hours for existing express
trains to travel from Mumbai—the center of India’s economy—to
Ahmedabad—the center of the country’s manufacturing—but,
once this high-speed rail is completed, it will be possible
to travel between these cities in just two hours.
This will enable us to provide a major boost to India’s further
economic and social development and reform.
At the same time, the new high-speed rail is also expected
to raise India’s railway technology and human resource standards.
Our role is a crucial one that includes invigorating India’s economy and society while also training railway workers in the country, and the way forward is likely to prove difficult given that it does not follow any predetermined trails.
That is why it is essential for us to maintain our confidence as we carve out a route for way forward for how to proceed.
Driven by a sense of mission, we will contribute the Shinkansen technology and experience accumulated by Japan over the course of last half a century to take on the challenges we face.
